Mr J. B. Ega da Silva of the Observatory appears

in obedience to a summons under section 85 of the Colonial

Regulations to answer certain charges brought against him

by

(a)

Dr. Doberck the Director of the Observatory.

The following are the charges:-

That you cannot read off a vernier or read a

thermometer or add up columns of figures quickly or correct-

ly or do any other part of your work.

(b)

That you were given a text book for your instruc-

tion and that instead of paying attention to it you gave it

to some person at Macao and did not return it until the

Director threatened to have you summoned.

(c)

That in February last you took twenty minutes to

rule a page in an observing book and that owing to your

excessive carelessness the work had to be stopped as you

spoiled the book.

(d)

That from the 10th to the 24th March 1890 you sat

in the office doing nothing.

(e)

That since the 24th March, 1890, you have absented

yourself from the office on the plea of sickness but that

you have nevertheless been seen walking in the streets.
